Phonics & Early Reading

At Bold Futures Federation, we place a great importance on reading and developing a love of reading for pleasure in our children. Our schools have a well-resourced library which children regularly enjoy and utlise. We follow the Read Write Inc. scheme for phonics and reading.

Read Write Inc. is a whole-school literacy programme designed and developed by Ruth Miskin, one of the country’s leading authorities on teaching children to read. The programme aims to create fluent readers, willing writers and confident speakers.

When a child joins us in Key Stage 1 or Early Years, their reading ability is assessed within the first few weeks. If the child has gaps in their knowledge of phonics, or if they have been designated as dyslexic, they are assigned to their own small group for regular sessions with a trained adult using Read Write Inc. methods.

Supporting your child with reading

Although your child will be taught to read at school, you will have a huge impact on their reading journey by continuing their practice at home.  Please do let us know if you would like any support with this.
