This week we will be moving into addition and subtraction, starting with number bonds. The children are used to working with objects to count, number lines and hundred squares to support their understanding. We often use dienes which are objects that represent hundreds, tens and ones to use their place value understanding when adding and subtracting. It is possible that you could use something like Lego bricks of different sizes as place value pieces, or you could cut up bits of paper to use instead. Or even use 1p, 10p and £1 coins!
We do encourage making drawings and jottings to work things out, especially if something is proving tricky. Do let me know if you need any further support.
