Marlborough Infant School has a very turbulent population, due to the high percentage of service families attending the school (approx. 80%). Despite the turbulence of the population and the challenges this can cause, the leadership and staff, swiftly support those children new on entry and those in the main cohort to accelerate their progress from their different start points. We always strive for every child to achieve and excel in all their learning. We also have fewer than national free school meal (pupil premium) children across the school. Pupil premium data is not detailed on this website, to ensure individual pupils are not identified, but the information is available on request.
Key Stage One Assessments 2016
2016 saw the first year of the new KS1 assessments. There were some fundamental changes to the National Curriculum over the last two years and in 2016 children and teachers have faced the challenge of completely revised “National Standards” and assessments. The changes to expectations in reading, writing and mathematics for all year groups were and continue to be the focus of much professional discussion, planning and changes to our teaching. Our children and staff have risen to this challenge brilliantly in their day to day work.
The new tests and assessments in 2016 were made significantly harder than the previous assessments, which makes comparison with previous performance under the old level system impossible. Furthermore, there was been continued changes and expectations to last year’s statutory assessments, across the year.
